Frequently Asked Questions about Yu Gi Oh at Gnome Games

Q: Do I lose cards when I play?

A: NO!! NEVER!! You should never lose any cards when you duel – either at Gnome Games or anywhere else.  That’s not the way the game is supposed to be played, it’s alos illegal in many places.

Q: What’s the difference between Traditional and Advanced Format?

A: These are the two types of tournaments and each type has banned or restricted cards that you are allowed to play.  You can read the latest banned and restricted list on the Official Yu Gi Oh website or download the latest list here.

Q: Can I use the Egyptian God Cards (Winged Dragon of Ra, Obelisk the Tormentor, Slifer the Sky Dragon)?

A: No.  These cards are banned from all formats. They are promo cards – and were not designed to be played.  If you want to play with them at home for fun, that’s cool – but not in tournaments or league.

Q: What do I need to play in a tournament?

A: You need to know the basic rules of Yu Gi Oh and have a deck of at least 40 cards. You’ll also need to make sure your deck is legal for the tournament format.

Q: Do I have to have sleeves to play in a tournament?

A: No, BUT we highly recommend that you do have sleeves for your deck. If you have cards that are bent or worn we may require you to sleeve your deck.  These cards would be considered ‘marked’ and you could be disqualified for cheating if you don’t sleeve them.  Also all of your sleeves must match.  If any are worn, torn, of a different color etc. they can not be used in tournament play.

Q: Where can I find my ranking?

A: After a few tournaments (usually 3 but sometimes more) you will be able to look up your ranking on the Upper Deck Website.  You will have to search for your number.  If you are not 14 your name will not show up until Upper Deck verifies some information with your parents and that can take a LONG time.  Also if you didn’t get your UDE number at Gnome Games we can’t follow up on your registration so we may not be able to help you until whoever you got your number from does their paperwork to get you registered.

Q: Where can I learn more about tournament and the rules?

A: On the official Upper Deck Yu Gi Oh Tournament Website.

Q: Can I sell my cards at Gnome Games?

A: No.  You can’t sell cards to other players at Gnome Games.  You wouldn’t take a grill to McDonald’s or Burger King and try to sell burgers there would you?  BUT we do buy cards from players.  We have a Wanted List available in the store
